Rules of Behavior

To allow all patrons of Nottawa Township Library to use its facilities to the fullest extent, the following rules of behavior have been adopted:
Patrons shall engage in activities associated with the library. Patrons not reading, studying, or using library materials may be required to leave the building.
For health considerations, appropriate apparel is required at all times including shirts and shoes.
Food or drink is not allowed in the library except in staff areas unless needed for health considerations.
Pets and animals are not allowed in the library with the exception of service animals.
Considerate treatment of all library materials including books, toys, furniture and equipment is required at all times.
Soliciting and sales are prohibited unless dealing specifically with library business.
Library users are required to be respectful and considerate of one another. Patrons will not disturb the atmosphere with loud, aggressive, or boisterous conduct, running, profanity, or abusive language.
The number of people allowed to congregate as a group may be limited at the discretion of the library staff if they believe the group’s size is disruptive or obstructive to other patrons.
An adult must supervise small children. The library staff cannot be responsible for their safety.
Cell phones should be turned off or changed to vibrate while in the library.
Patrons who violate the above rules are subject to the following consequences:
First offense: Staff will give a verbal warning citing the behavior in question. If the problem is resolved, no other action will be taken.

Second offense: Staff member will cite the behavior that is violation of our policy and tell the individual that they must leave the library for the remainder of the day.

Third offense: Staff member will cite the behavior that is in violation of our policy and tell the individual that they must leave the library for the remainder of the week.

Further action will be taken if the problem continues.

Nottawa Township Library reserves the right to establish and implement policies as needed to create and maintain an atmosphere that is safe, and accessible to all patrons.
