Change is Ahead!
For information regarding the closure of the
State Library of Michigan and how these changes will affect Mel
and Interlibrary Loan please visit: savemilibrary.org.
We will be updating our current software
system from Follett Circ Plus to Follett Destiny this
fall. These changes will enable patrons to review their
personal record from home over the Internet, as well as allowing
holds to be placed on items that are checked out. We feel
that these changes will help patrons view what is available
within our collection from home, as well as assisting other
libraries when requesting interlibrary loans.

Continued Improvements to Our Building
We are continuing to improve our building now
that we are at our new location. We are looking to pour a
concrete slab for our four picnic tables to sit on and look to
purchasing two more tables. We are looking to grant
funding to provide a picnic shelter over the tables.
Additionally we are working on our Children's Farm Garden.
This will include painting our garden shed, preparing flower
beds, creating a sand box, farmer scarecrow and sunflower
house. We have also looked to lining our driveway up with
Eleanor Street to provide easier access and exiting when
visiting the library. If you have expertise and are
interested in helping with any of these projects please see the
library staff.

Operating Millage Renewal
Passed in May of 2008
Tuesday, May 6, 2008 the library's operating
millage renewal was on the ballot. Nottawa township
voters were ask whether or not the current millage should be
renewed at 1.63 mills for an additional six years. The
millage renewal would have been on the ballot regardless of the
library's location as it constitutes 78% of the library's annual
funds. Without the taxpayers support the library would be
unable to remain open. Thank you voters!
Yes! We expanded the library
For the convenience of our patrons and to
continue to provide the public with quality services, we
expanded our library. We surveyed many
options: building onto the library, sharing the building with
the Nottawa Township Hall, and purchasing new property in
Centreville. We purchased and renovated the building located at 685 E. Main Street with funds reserved for this purpose. Funds
had
been set aside, out of our Operating and Capital Improvements
millage, by a fiscally responsible library board and staff
over several years with hopes that an additional millage would
be unnecessary. As any patron could see the library was
bursting at the seams, parking was often a problem, and we found it difficult to offer all of the programming we
desired to because of our lack of space. The new library is nearly
2.5 times the space of the existing library. One observer
noted, that our entire current library and parking lot could fit
into the new building.

Look For Those Lost Books!
Winter break has concluded and the children have
headed back to school-- now is a great time to look for those
extra library materials that may have been checked out over
break and have not found their way back yet. Feel free to
contact the library if you are not sure if your account is
cleared at (269) 467-6289.

link to view the 2006-2007 circulation statistics.
Computer Rules Change
Due to the high demand for
use of library computers, the library has designated one
computer for express use when all other computers are
full. Patrons are now allowed fifteen minutes on the
express computer at times when all of the computers are being
used. This is typically between the hours of 3:00 pm and
5:00 pm, at this time all computer sessions will be shortened to
thirty minutes if patrons are waiting. As a reminder the
library also provides free wireless internet for patrons who
wish to bring in their laptops.
Library Service Survey
Thank you to individuals who participated in
our Library Service Survey 2006. For results please see the
Library Service
Survey page. The Nottawa Township Library Board and
Staff appreciate all of the comments and suggestions received.
Responses to some common patron questions posed through the
survey are posted on the Nottawa Township Library's Answers to Some Survey Comments.
The Nottawa Township Library welcomes
suggestions of titles, authors, and subject areas from the
public. If you would like to make a suggestion,
contact the staff at the circulation desk.
